The importance of being remembered

Yellow flowers push throw an early spring forest at Brooklyn Botanic GardenMy cousin sent me this link about the only living landmarked tree.

It’s very A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

The idea that you can landmark a living thing is interesting. By recognizing life; we also recognize death. Landmarking is to endow a thing or place with a special power; the ability to transcend time through memory.

My interest was especially piqued by their guess that the Survivor Tree might be landmarked.

John 12 says:
24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25 Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

The 9/11 memorial website says the Survivor Tree represents “rebirth,” but I would contend that if you don’t allow yourself to experience loss, you can’t experience rebirth.
